Climate Challenge - Spring 2026

PROPOSALS must reduce pollution, greenhouse gases such as C02, or heat released into the air. Methods may include, but are not limited to ...   

  1. Increasing energy efficiency of a common process or product
  2. Creating energy efficiently through a new method
  3. Improving the efficiency of an energy production method, including fossil fuels
  4. Reducing emissions of fossil fuels (prior to entering the air)
  5. Removing pollutants from air (after being emitted into the air) 


AWARDS

  • $5,000 available in cash grants, plus in-kind services:
  • Two in-kind awards that involve designing and implementing prototypes in areas such as AI, robotics, smart manufacturing, high-precision 3D printing, or IoT.  
  • Two Marketing Support Awards provided by Mags & Marrelli Advertising Agency, valued at $3000 each  


ELIGIBILITY (JUDGING CATEGORIES)

1. CONNECTICUT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT, 

2. CONNECTICUT COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENT.

3. NON-STUDENT: Connecticut Resident or Small Business headquartered in CT.

Finalists in each category will be notified April 2 via email.    


Finals live in person, 1:00 pm Friday, April 6  

University of Bridgeport, Carlson Hall room 153. 

FINALS JUDGING PROCEDURES

Nine Finalists will be selected from among the online submissions (3 High School students, 3 Community College students, and 3 Entrepreneurs or Small Companies. 

At the finals, entrants will deliver a 3-minute PowerPoint presentation to a panel of judges, followed by 3-5 minutes of Q&A.   


FINALS JUDGING CRITERIA

1. PROBLEM:  Solves a real problem; there is strong customer pain or desire

2. SOLUTION: Superior or cheaper than alternatives, or serves new market niche 

3. MANAGEMENT. Knowledgeable? Committed? 

4. CAPITAL INTENSITY: Funding needed to bring to market


FINALS AGENDA

1:00 - 2:00 pm — Contestants upload PowerPoints to computer in presentation room.

2:00 - 3:00 pm — Three-minute Presentations plus Q& A from judges

3:00 - 3:30 pm — Judges deliberate in “Green Room”

3:00 - 3:10 pm — Break

3:10 - 3:40 pm — Tour of Innovation Lab  

3:40 pm — Announce Winners and Present Vouchers for In-kind Awards. 

The University of Bridgeport will mail checks to cash winners upon receipt of W9s.
